UTM tags + Facebook ads = awesome - Marketing Land

UTM tags + Facebook ads = awesome - Marketing Land | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
If you’re not applying UTM tags to your Facebook advertising traffic, it’s likely not being categorized correctly. Facebook ad traffic often shows up as m.facebook.com / referral | facebook.com / referral, or something similar without UTM tagging in place.

In Google Analytics, your main method for viewing lead and sale success should be by navigating to the Acquisition section and selecting Source/Medium. Within this section, we are able to choose both ad content and ad campaign as secondary dimensions; this means that when we use UTMs, we can actually use Google Analytics to see success at the ad level (and do some other cool things).

By choosing a process for the campaign and content UTMs, you set yourself up for success. What does success look like?
CYDigital's insight:

Nuts 'n bolts, and clearly an almost-necessity for Facebook advertising.

What Is UTM Builder and How You Should Use It in Your Campaigns - LiveChat

What Is UTM Builder and How You Should Use It in Your Campaigns - LiveChat | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Here’s an example of a standard URL:
https://www.livechatinc.com/podcast/
And here’s how it will look like once you have created a new version of it in UTM builder:
https://www.livechatinc.com/podcast/?utm_source=july%20newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=business%20sidekick
There are five parameters you can add to your URLs:

  • utm_source (e.g. newsletter to identify traffic that comes from a newsletter),
  • utm_medium (the advertising or marketing medium, e.g. CPC, banner, email newsletter),
  • utm_campaign (the individual campaign name, e.g. “july” for a July newsletter),
  • utm_term (identify paid search keywords; you can specify a keyword here),
  • utm_content (used to differentiate similar content, or links within the same ad, e.g. if you have two CTAs within the same email message, you can use this UTM parameter).
