Dropbox launches Paper note-taking app in open beta, releases Android and iOS apps - VentureBeat | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Dropbox today is launching dedicated Android and iOS apps for its Dropbox Paper collaborative note-taking program, which has been previously limited to the web. Also today, Dropbox is graduating Dropbox Paper to open beta, meaning that anyone can start using it right away, and there’s no need to sign up for a waiting list.

Dropbox first started testing out Dropbox Paper under the names Project Composer and Dropbox Notes in mid-2015, following the acquisition of collaborative note-taking app Hackpad, in 2014. The Hackpad code is now available on GitHub under an open-source Apache license.

Here's how Dropbox is changing its free tier with a major update - CIO.com

Here's how Dropbox is changing its free tier with a major update - CIO.com | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Dropbox made some major changes to its free tier on Wednesday, including support for read-only folders, as the company released a crush of new features aimed at enhancing its users' productivity.

The biggest change users will notice: In order to automatically upload photos from their smartphones, they must install the Dropbox app on at least one Mac or PC. People who don't mind manually uploading their photos to Dropbox won't need to change anything.

Free users also get to reap the benefits of several new features added Wednesday, including an updated iOS app that supports scanning documents directly into Dropbox, and the ability to have more granular control over sharing files with other people from the Mac or Windows desktop.

Dropbox unveils new tools for business customers - VentureBeat

Dropbox unveils new tools for business customers - VentureBeat | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Digest...

Dropbox first announced the new capabilities, including view-only permissions for shared folders, passwords for shared links, and expirations for shared links, a few weeks ago. Demand for the additions was high enough that thousands of people joined the early-access program just to test-drive the new features. Thanks to that testing and the feedback Dropbox received, the features are now out for Dropbox for Business customers, according to a statement the company issued today

The new features should aid in-house collaboration by allowing administrators to maintain better control over the files they share and help avoid the kind of costly mistakes that can happen when too many people have editing privileges. Likewise, the expiration option for shared links can be a useful way to make sure that multiple revisions of important files are not circulating within a team.
