Introducing the new Search Console - Google

Introducing the new Search Console - Google | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
A few months ago we released a beta version of a new Search Console experience to a limited number of users. We are now starting to release this beta version to all users of Search Console, so that everyone can explore this simplified process of optimizing a website's presence on Google Search. The functionality will include Search performance, Index Coverage, AMP status, and Job posting reports. We will send a message once your site is ready in the new Search Console.

We started by adding some of the most popular functionality in the new Search Console (which can now be used in your day-to-day flow of addressing these topics). We are not done yet, so over the course of the year the new Search Console (beta) will continue to add functionality from the classic Search Console. Until the new Search Console is complete, both versions will live side-by-side and will be easily interconnected via links in the navigation bar, so you can use both.

The new Search Console was rebuilt from the ground up by surfacing the most actionable insights and creating an interaction model which guides you through the process of fixing any pending issues. We’ve also added ability to share reports within your own organization in order to simplify internal collaboration.

How to download all of your landing pages from Google Search Console via Analytics Edge -- and I mean ALL of them! - Search Engine Land

How to download all of your landing pages from Google Search Console via Analytics Edge -- and I mean ALL of them! - Search Engine Land | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
I’ve written in the past about how to hack Google Search Console to get more data from your reports. For example, setting up directories in GSC, which will focus your reporting on URLs located just in those directories. That will help, and it can enable you to find more landing pages in GSC. But it’s not perfect, especially for sites that don’t have categories mapped out as distinct directories. And you’re still limited to one thousand rows of data per directory.

You can also learn how to code and use the Search Console API directly. Just understand that there’s a learning curve involved. Unfortunately, I know many people who have started to dig into the API and then wasted time, never got it to work, and pulled their hair out in frustration. If you have the technical aptitude to code and tap into the API, I recommend doing that. But if you’re looking for a solid solution right out of the box, that might not be your best option. Let’s move on.

So, based on the limitations I listed above, wouldn’t it be nice to have a tool that can easily and seamlessly export all of your landing pages (or queries) from GSC to Excel? And I mean ALL of them. Enter Analytics Edge.

How to improve your CTR using Google Search Console | Search Engine Watch

How to improve your CTR using Google Search Console | Search Engine Watch | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
I went through every article in the top 20 and I made a number of changes to them in the CMS, including using the recommendations as featured in my guide to writing meta descriptions and guide to writing title tags. These included:

  • Making sure the most important keywords for the webpage showed up in the meta description.
  • Making sure the most important keywords were first in title tags.
  • Rewrote meta descriptions so they were more legible and meaningful.
  • Made sure the meta descriptions were as compelling and as relevant as possible.
  • Made sure meta descriptions were no longer than 135 – 160 characters long
  • Made sure title tags were 50-60 characters long, including spaces.
  • Made sure headlines ( tag) were different from the title tag.
  • Removed duplicate meta descriptions and title tags.
  • Used rich snippets, in the form of Schema markup, to add elements such as visible star ratings to my results.
Overall, the average CTR for the site has risen from 2.7% to 3.37%, but as you should already be pointing out, this can also be attributed to wealth of other factors – seasonal changes in traffic, algorithm fluctuations, general site health.
