SlideShare offers built-in lead forms as a paid feature, and users can integrate these forms directly with a marketing automation platform, such as Marketo. This feature is available to business accounts, allowing users to choose the "Collect Leads" option for each SlideShare they upload. (SlideShare has a great guide on paid options.)

Depending on your audience and offering, paying for leads on SlideShare might be worth it. However, in my experience, the lead quality can be highly variable, and I've found the paid options to be more expensive and less useful than other channels.


So, how can you use SlideShare for lead-gen while maintaining your budget and your lead quality standards?

Still, not sure what the what is up with SlideShare. One of two things. Either the very human and expert editors of the homepage haven’t found a single, decent, worthy-of-the-homepage deck in more than two months now. That is a possibility. A deck creativity dry spell is sweeping through the marketing world; these things happen.

The other possibility is that SlideShare / LinkedIn / Microsoft is not telling us something. Without gliding into conspiracy theory territory (extremist liberals have planted subliminal code in the homepage) it is safe to say that business is not as usual. Somebody higher up the chain might have decided that the SlideShare thing is just not worth it, that it is impossible to monetize and so it is an unnecessary burden on LinkedIn; a dead weight that’s pulling it down.

That’s a totally valid argument and if Microsoft had announced it had decided to pull the plug on SlideShare we believe the earth would continue spinning; Microsoft has pulled the plug on enough projects, it knows the drill.

In my estimation, the reason why more experienced social media marketers gravitate toward Slideshare is that they eventually recognize that social media is about actions, not eyeballs. The “reach” offered by the larger consumer-oriented platforms is seductive, but if only a tiny percentage of your fans are seeing your posts in those venues, is the reach really reliable?

Slideshare’s audience is bigger than you might think, is terrific for lead generation, and is populated by people actively seeking information and resources (not dissimilar from a search engine, in that regard).

And that audience is hungry for information. It’s not uncommon to generate significant views and downloads for Slideshare presentations, including 24,000+ and counting for my presentation on reliable reach:
